In December 1982, Jimmy and his family hosted a Christmas party for under privileged children surprising them with a bicycle for the holidays. Since that date, his Annual Bicycles for Kids Event has given away over 10,000 bicycles with the donations from many families, businesses and organizations.
The annual party is for young girls and boys from homes where Mom, Dad or both may be missing, out of a job, or not sure when their next meal is coming from. The Christmas time party provides children from 5-9 years of age with a new bicycle, safety helmet, Children’s Living Bible, several small gifts as additional Christmas presents, and a food box with turkey and fixings for a Christmas dinner.
The children are treated to a fun filled day where they enjoy rides, a petting zoo, winter snow in Phoenix, horse & carriage rides, a bounce house, a Fire Truck, face painting and more. Disney Characters, the Phoenix Suns Gorilla and of course Santa Claus are there to greet them and take pictures with them while they dine on hot dogs, cotton candy, and all their favorite foods. The Phoenix Fire Department and Police Department also provide safety tips. Through the years some of their favorite athletes from the Phoenix Suns, the Harlem Globetrotters and other teams have also joined in the festivities with the kids.
